Fourth generation WiMAX network put into commercial operation in Astana

ASTANA. November 27. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ Alem Communication Holding LLC has announced commercial launch of fourth generation WiMAX network (4G). Prime Minister Karim Massimov and Minister of Communication and Information Askar Zhumagaliyev have participated in a presentation of new technology in Beijing Palace Hotel.

"We announce commercial launch of fourth generation WiMAX network in Astana. We launched this network in a short term. Now the network covers more that half of the city, and till the end of the year we will cover the whole city", Head of Alem Communication Holding LLC Grigory Grigorov said.

According to him, till the end of 2010 the technology will be launched in other two cities, and next year the WiMAX network will be available in other 18-20 cities of Kazakhstan.

"We will provide our services to over 30 percent of the Kazakh population", he resumed.

K.Massimov, in his turn, noted that "WiMAX introduction is a step to promotion and development of the Kazakh society".

The Premier paid A.Zhumagaliyev's attention to the issue of computer literacy of the population. "You should work over the issue of computer literacy of the population", K.Massimov said addressing to the Minister.
