At least one person has been killed by the Friday storms as more high winds and waves are expected in six areas of Normandy and Brittany: Manche, Côte d'Armor, Finistère, Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique and Ille-et-Vilaine.

The casualty came after an 80-year-old passenger on a cruise ship fell down and died in difficult sea conditions.

The storm was set to rage throughout Friday night, as local weather forecast predicts winds of up to 120 km/h (75mph) inland and up to 140 km/h (87 mph) on the French Coast of Cornouailles.

Dozens of roads were closed off on Friday as heavy rain could worsen flooding from rivers in Vendée, Brittany and Normandy over the weekend.

Last week, a fierce storm battered the west of France, leaving 55,000 people without power.

Storm Qumaira brought winds of up to 120km/h (75mph), cutting power in the Loire Valley and Normandy as floodwater swamped streets in the Breton towns of Quimperle and Morlaix.
