French investor to help develop wind plant in Zhambyl region
The session of the Majilis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, ratified Wednesday a special agreement reached between the Kazakh and French governments seeking to develop cooperation in renewable energy sources, Kazinform News Agency reports.
As per the agreement, a French investor will help develop a wind power station in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region.
Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said the agreement seeks to forge cooperation between Astana and Paris in their fight against global warming through promotion, development and implementation of ambitious projects in the sphere of renewable energy sources and sustainable development in the territory of Kazakhstan.
On top of that, the agreement was inked to help Kazakhstan and France achieve their goals, priorities and obligations in terms of energy security, transition to environmentally friendly technologies and emissions reduction.
Minister Satkaliyev added that a one-gigawatt wind power station is set to be constructed near Mirniy village in Zhambyl region as per the agreement.
Low footprint and no harmful emissions into the atmosphere, according to Satkaliyev, are the factors that make a wind plant different from other types of power plants.
The minister also noted that the project will eventually allow to create some 2,500 jobs and attract about 820 billion tenge of investment.
