French police seize more than 800 kg explosives from ETA

PARIS. August 26. KAZINFORM The French police discovered 12 ammunition depots of the Basque separatist group ETA and seized more than 800 kg of explosives over the last six days, French prosecutor Jean-Claude Marin said Tuesday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

The storehouses, located in remote areas, contained ammonium nitrate and chlorate for explosives, guns and detonators.

    The French police also arrested several ETA leaders besides destroying the ammunition caches.

    The series of raids dealt the most severe blow to ETA ever by French police officers since 2004.

    ETA, founded in 1959, has campaigned for an independent Basque state in parts of northern Spain and southwestern France since 1968, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
