Fujitsu eyes launching smartphones for elderly people in U.S., Europe
TOKYO. May 2. KAZINFORM Fujitsu Ltd. is considering marketing easy-to-use smartphones targeted at elderly people in the United States and Europe in addition to the Japanese market as the company aims to compete with Apple Inc. and other foreign manufacturers.
"We are discussing launching products that are different from others,'' though they may not be sold in high volumes, Corporate Senior Vice President Nobuo Otani said in a recent interview with Kyodo News.
The company is currently in talks with a number of telecom operators in the United States and Europe on selling smartphones targeted at selected users, said Otani, who heads Fujitsu's mobile phone subsidiary, adding that its strategy will be different from those of companies like South Korea's Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, Kyodo reports.
