He was born in North Kazakhstan oblast. Gabbas studied in Omsk gymnasium, the Central Asian State University and Institute of National Economy in Moscow. He participated in the Kazakh youth organizations ?Birlik? (?Unity?), ?Zhas azamat? (?Young citizen?). He was repressed in 1937 and rehabilitated posthumously. G.Togzhanov is one of the founders of the Kazakh Soviet literature and author of books ?New association of fellow-countrymen?, ?Poetry of Magzhan and criticism of Zhussipbek?, ?Dialogue of two young people?, ?Literature and questions of criticism?, ?Kazakh theatre arts?, ?Old village?, ?Abai?, many articles on culture, the Kazakh history, creativity of some writers and art. Togzhanov?s works influenced development of the Kazakh literature. He suggested the elaboration of methodology and classification of the Kazakh literary heritage.
