Gazprom to down Turkmen, Uzbek gas purchases to nearly 10bn m3 in 2015

MOSCOW. KAZINFORM - Russia's oil and gas giant Gazprom plans to down gas purchases from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to nearly 10 billion cubic meters in 2015 and replace those volumes by its own gas, deputy chairman of the company Alexander Medvedev said Tuesday in Hong Kong, AKI Press reports citing RIA-Novosti news agency.

"Gazprom has no technological need for the purchase of gas from abroad. Gazprom is capable of both covering the Russian market and delivering gas to Europe and Asia in the future by its own resources," Medvedev said. He noted that the company will continue in 2015 gas purchases from Central Asia, however the volumes will significantly go down. The contract with Turkmenistan this year was signed for only 4 billion m3 of gas. "This is our common decision," said the deputy chairman. The gas contract with Uzbekistan is only for 1 billion m3. "That is four times less than it was before," said Medvedev.
