General prosecutor office of Ukraine refuses to extradite Mikheil Saakashvili
KIEV. KAZINFORM - General prosecutor office of Ukraine refused to extradite the former head of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, thinking that he is being persecuted for "political reasons", Trend.az reported citing RIA Novosti news agency.
"On the results of inspection, General prosecutor office of Ukraine came to conclusion that there is the risk that an extradition request of Saakashvili was made by the competent authorities of Georgia with the aim of political persecution," said the message. "In addition, his extradition would be contrary to the requirements of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950. Under such circumstances, the General prosecutor office as the central body of Ukraine on extradition issues made a decision to refuse the extradition of Saakashvili, and the Georgian colleagues have been informed about it."
