Germany and U.S. should enter into direct negotiations with Iran, not agreeing in advance on the issue of nuclear weapons - Nazarbayev
BERLIN. February 8. KAZINFORM /Marlan Zhiembay/ Germany and the United States should enter into direct negotiations with the Iranian leadership, not agreeing in advance on the issue of nuclear weapons. Such an opinion was expressed by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the opening of the Berlin Eurasian Club.
Today the world community recognizes the achievements of Kazakhstan in the preservation of global security, and that our country has voluntarily renounced the world's fourth largest nuclear-missile arsenal, the President noted.
Nazarbayev says he maintains good relations with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and during a meeting with him described the experience of Kazakhstan and told him "it's wrong not to give up nuclear weapons for the purpose of having some dozen bombs, when there are thousands of ways to protect the state."
"I once again urge Iran's leadership to refer to the experience of Kazakhstan", Nursultan Nazarbayev said, adding that instead of weapons it is possible to use peaceful nuclear energy capabilities.
