Global Innovation Index-2024: Kazakhstan in Top-3 of CA and Southern Asian countries
On September 26, 2024, 17th edition of WIPO's Global Innovation Index -2024 was released at a hybrid event in Geneva, Switzerland, Kazinform News Agency learned from Akorda.
Since 2007, the Global Innovation Index (WIPO) has been evaluating performance of 133 countries in 80 areas, confirming the impact of innovations on economic and production growth. The rating serves as an important indicator for developing new strategies in the field of innovations. An increase in the rating is an international assessment of the state reforms and helps to improve the international reputation and attract direct investment to Kazakhstan.
Those attending the ceremony were WIPO Director General Daren Tang, Global Innovation Index Co-Editor Sacha Wunsch Vincent, heads of state and government, including President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, and leading experts in the field of social entrepreneurship and innovation.
Kazakhstan demonstrated quality growth and was ranked among the Top -3 of countries of the Central and Southern Asia (after India and Iran), having climbed from the 81st to the 78th position in the global ranking. Improvement is observed in the following indicators: Efficiency of public administration, Rule of law, PISA scale in reading, mathematics and natural sciences, Market development, Doing business, and Net inflow of direct investment.
The biggest jump in the rankings was registered in Creative Goods and Services - from the 93rd to the 65th position, National feature films/mn pop. - from the 61st to the 31st place, and in Top-Level Domains (TLDs)/ th pop - from the 115th to the 80th spot.
The editors of the rating particularly noted Kazakhstan's entry into the world’s Top-30 countries in the following indicators:
• Online government - 8th position
• Utility models by origin/bn PPP$ GDP - 10th position,
• Electronic participation - 15th position
• Pupil-teacher ratio, secondary education - 16th position,
• Growth of labor productivity - 30th position.
On October 4, 2024, with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Republic of Kazakhstan will host for the first time the Regional Ceremony of Unveiling the Global Innovation Index 2024 Report for Asian countries.
The event will be attended by innovation ministers and heads of patent offices from Asian countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and interested non-governmental organizations.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (UN WIPO) is one of 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations, whose activities are aimed at encouraging creativity and promoting the international protection of intellectual property (IP). WIPO simplifies the international registration of trademarks and patents.
The Global Innovation Index is a large-scale economic study of countries around the world to determine the impact of innovations on the development of countries. The international rating has been evaluating 133 countries of the world in 80 different indicators since 2007. The importance of the growth of this index is determined by its inclusion in the government strategies of China, Singapore, the UAE, Turkey and other countries.
