Golovkin may face Chavez in late 2014, says promoter Bob Arum

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Promoter of the undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin Tom Loeffler explained why GGG's April bout had been cancelled, Boxingscene.com reports.

Loeffler of K2 Promotions said he was contacted by Golovkin's manager who cancelled a much discussed fight against Andy Lee scheduled for April 26th due to the untimely passing of his father.

"Gennady Ivanovich Golovkin, age 68, suffered a sudden fatal heart attack. Gennady is currently in a traditional 40-day mourning period with his family in Kazakhstan," Loeffler added. "Everything in regard to his boxing career is currently on hold," said Loeffler. "His priority is to spend time with his family and at the appropriate time he will advise us when he is ready to continue his boxing career." Meanwhile, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's promoter Bob Arum did not rule out the possibility of Golovkin vs.Chavez bout this year. "The fight may take place this fall," he told Boxingscene.com.
