Google Tax: Alibaba, Aliexpress, Netflix and other foreign companies paid Kazakhstan KZT70bn in taxes

Starting from 2022, Kazakhstan has begun imposing VAT on foreign companies providing digital services or e-commerce to individuals in the country, known as “Google Tax,” Kazinform News Agency cites the State Revenue Committee of the Kazakh Finance Ministry.

There are 98 foreign companies registered, including major international actors such as Alibaba, Aliexpress, Apple Google, Huawei, Netflix, Pinduoduo, Temu and others. The companies paid 70 billion tenge in taxes, said the State Revenue Committee.

The country has recently introduced additional changes to its Tax Code, as it eyes efficient control over foreign online companies’ operations. The Code provides for blocking their activities in Kazakhstan in case they breach registration requirements.

Earlier it was reported that the World Bank backed Kazakhstan's efforts to reduce sugar consumption with smart taxes.
