Great Silk Road to boost Kazakhstan's tourism
ALMATY. KAZINFORM An international expedition "Thousands li along the Silk Road" has arrived in Almaty to hold a roundtable themed "Friendship and cooperation bridge of the Great Silk Road". The event addressed cultural and economic issues.
"Revival of the Silk Road will contribute to brisk growth in tourism in Kazakhstan. Tourism sector will get a new impetus along with the initiatives of the Presidents of Kazakhstan and China. We will witness a new development stage as tourists will travel through Kazakhstan, Kaily (Almaty region), Otrar, Taraz," Professor Karl Baipakov said. The international expedition plans to travel through the territories of eight countries of the ancient Silk Road lying across China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Italy. It will take 56 days to cover the 15,000 km (30,000 li) distance.
