Gunman kills eight people in U.S. nursing home
MOSCOW. March 30. KAZINFORM A gunman shot dead eight people in a nursing home in North Carolina on Sunday, and injured several others, U.S. media reported.
Of the victims, seven were patients at the Pinelake Health and Rehab Center, who were aged between 78 and 98, and one was a 39-year-old nurse.
The attack in the small town of Carthage occurred at 10:00 a.m. local time (15:00 GMT). Six of the victims died on site, and two others died later in hospital.
Two visitors to the center were wounded in the attack, along with a police officer who shot and injured the gunman before arresting him.
The gunman has been identified as Robert Stewart, 45, Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger told reporters.
She said Stewart is not known to have had any connections with the home; Kazinform has learnt from RIA Novosti.
