Head of Kazakhstan mission to NATO meets Sec Gen of Alliance

BRUSSELS. February 10. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ Yesterday in Brussels Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan Konstantin Zhigalov met with Secretary General of the NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in the headquarters of the Alliance. The Secretary General highly estimated the relations between Kazakhstan and the NATO and noted significant step in development of multidimensional cooperation, Kazinform correspondent reports.

The first stage of the Individual Partnership Action Plan has been successfully implemented. Kazakhstan is the only Central Asian country which has concluded such Plan with the NATO. Interaction in military sphere remains the main direction in joint work. However cooperation in prevention of emergencies, scientific programs, public diplomacy and in other spheres has significantly developed. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer expressed confidence that chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE in 2010 will become an integrating factor between the East and West and spoke for constructive cooperation between the OSCE and the NATO during Kazakhstan?s chairmanship.
