Heavy rains in Sri Lanka claim 2 lives, leave 3 missing
Two Sri Lankans have died and three are missing as of Friday due to natural disasters triggered by heavy rains, the country's Disaster Management Center (DMC) said, Xinhua reports.
The DMC reported that more than 92,382 people from 27,733 families have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
The Meteorology Department warned that heavy rains exceeding 75 millimeters are expected in many parts of the country on Saturday.
The government is taking all necessary steps to assist those affected by the extreme weather, the DMC added.
Earlier it was reported that the world’s largest iceberg, A23a, is drifting from Antarctica toward South Georgia, a remote British island renowned for its diverse wildlife.
