Over the past three decades, the United Nations (UN) has initiated and facilitated more than 400 initiatives in Kazakhstan. Among these endeavors, the UN has sought to reduce socioeconomic disparities, bolster economic stability, and provide assistance to marginalized communities. The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken" has recently become a part of the UN Global Compact (UNGC), Kazinform News Agency reports.

UNGC represents an international initiative for businesses operating within the domain of sustainable development. Currently, 85 Kazakhstani companies have become affiliated with the program, thereby gaining access to novel opportunities and reinforcing the country's standing in Central Asia.

One of the key benefits of Atameken's accession to the UNGC is the opportunity to strengthen Kazakhstan's position within the international sustainable development agenda. In the context of global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity and energy security issues, Kazakhstan can become a driving force behind joint projects in Central Asia aimed at addressing these problems. This will strengthen regional co-operation and create new opportunities for integration into the global economy.

The UNGC will also serve as a pivotal instrument for the country's economic advancement, with a particular emphasis on sustainability. Thanks to the UNGC platform, Kazakhstani companies will be able to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their strategic frameworks, thereby ensuring long-term and sustainable economic expansion.

Accession to the UNGC also presents new opportunities for the advancement of a green economy and innovation in Kazakhstan. The implementation of environmental initiatives, digital technologies and sustainable business practices is facilitating the acceleration of the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“Atameken” will oversee the implementation of the UNGC principles in business operations, thereby contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. This will reinforce global partnerships, enhance productivity and generate new employment opportunities.
