Hundreds stranded on Kazakhstan highways in snow banks

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Two hundred drivers were helplessly stuck in the snow across Kazakhstan yesterday, Kazinform has learnt from the Ministry of Emergencies.

167 people, including 25 children, were stranded in their cars on the Saryozek-Koktal highway in the Almaty region. Local rescuers helped one bus, two trucks and 29 paralyzed on the highway get out of the snow banks.

30 passenger cars with 40 people travelling in were caught in the snow on the Aktobe-Astrakhan motorway the same day. Emergency crews gave a tow to the cars.

No casualties were reported.
