According to the presidential press service, the sides touched upon the organization and holding of the EXPO-2017 in Astana and compliance of the developed events with the BIE requirements.

President Nazarbayev especially noted it was important to cooperate effectively in terms of organization of the event.

"In Astana, you have already met with people responsible for the exhibition, for instance, prime minister and mayor of the city. You have been informed of the preparations for the project. I am aware that you've been an avid supporter of Astana since the very beginning. I am thankful for that. Now a lot needs to be done and in this respect we would like to garner BIE's support and collaboration. All organizational issues need to be solved this year," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Besides, the Kazakh President noted the preparations for the exhibition under the topic "Energy of the Future" were underway.

"We have found a suitable location for the pavilions. A special company has been set up to monitor the preparation process. Now I would like to hear your recommendations and opinion in terms of how we will work and what needs to be accomplished. I believe that the whole region will benefit from this exposition, not only Kazakhstan. I personally keep an eye on the preparations," the Head of State added.

Vicente Loscertales thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the first meeting since Astana had been named the host city of EXPO-2017.

"It is with great pleasure that I reflect on our first meeting when you explained the idea of this exhibition. Today I see that you have secured a great victory. It shows the unity of people of Kazakhstan and wise strategic policy. The fact that majority of the BIE member countries backed Astana's bid means that you were well prepared. It is worth mentioning that the theme also meets interests of all participants. We are ready to continue cooperation in this field and think that the exhibition in Kazakhstan will attract millions of guests and will be a success," Mr. Loscertales said.

The BIE Secretary General also confirmed that from 2014 Kazakhstan will be able to invite foreign participants to start preparations of necessary infrastructure.

"We will invite Kazakhstani as well as foreign innovative companies to make the exposition even more high-tech and innovative. This will make Astana and Kazakhstan internationally renowned," he concluded.
