II Turkic Universiade kicks off in Turkistan
The grand opening ceremony of the II Turkic Universiade was held in Turkistan city on Monday, November 6, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Sadi Jafarov, Minister of Higher Education and Science of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek and Governor of Turkistan region Darkhan Satybaldy wished good luck to the participants.
As many as 450 participants from Kazakhstan, Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Hungary gathered in Turkistan for the Universiade.
The athletes will compete in seven sports: table tennis, chess, volleyball, futsal, judo, freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling.
The competitions are held at the Turkistan Olympic Center and Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
The winners are to be announced on November 10.
The organizer of the event is the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
