IMF to boost financing power by over $400 bil.: Azumi

WASHINGTON. April 20. KAZINFORM he International Monetary Fund will likely increase its financing power by more than $400 billion to prevent the eurozone debt crisis from dragging down global growth, Japanese Finance Minister Jun Azumi said Thursday, as the Group of 20 leading economies started two-day ministerial talks in Washington.

''The possibility has become high to achieve'' the goal of raising such an amount of contributions from some members of the multilateral lender, Azumi told reporters after attending a dinner meeting of the G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors,  Kyodo said.

A senior Japanese official said some emerging economies, which had been seen as reluctant to be involved in the additional IMF resource boost, are now expected to join the scheme and help the fund meet global financing demands over the coming years.
