Infant mortality rate decreased in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Infant mortality rate reduced in Kazakhstan, this has been reported by Minister of Health Salidat Kairbekova at a meeting on the implementation of the President's Address to the Nation which was held in the Republican Diagnostic Centre.

"In 2007, infant mortality rate was 14.7 cases per thousand live births. This figure was one of the highest amongst CIS countries", said S.Kairbekova.

As the minister said, to achieve the objectives set it is needed to keep the dynamics of decrease in infant mortality, and to strengthen the work in those regions where it is done very poorly.

Also she noted that the maternal mortality reduced by 6.7% last year.

She added that the support and timely hospitalization of women with a high risk was achieved everywhere.
