International community achieved progress in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, but threats still remain - Ban Ki-moon

ASTANA. December 1. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ The international community reached progress in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced it in the course of the OSCE Summit in Astana today.

"Despite this, the threats remain and I appreciate the work of the OSCE participating states in this direction. In particular, I welcome the current cooperation in implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 1540 on Non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction", Ban Ki-moon noted.

According to him, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty is of paramount importance for nuclear non-proliferation.

"I have repeatedly urged all countries to take ambitious steps, especially, those states which ratification is needed for enactment of the Treaty", he added.
