International Contact Group on Afghanistan got familiarized with Kazakhstan's efforts on Afghan problem's solution

ASTANA. March 4. KAZINFORM The International Contact Group on Afghanistan held its regular meeting yesterday, March 3, at the headquarters of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah.

The event organized on the initiative of the OIC was attended by more than 120 representatives from 50 countries and international institutions involved in the process of stabilization and rehabilitation of Afghanistan. Kazakhstan's delegation was headed by Ambassador-at-Large, Special Envoy for Afghanistan O. Bitimov.

The current meeting of the International Contact Group became an important event in the context of further coordination of the global community's actions on ensuring Afghanistan's development. Issues concerning rehabilitation and national reconciliation, economic development, security and formation of effective public institutions were on agenda of the session.

Taking the floor O. Bitimov told about the efforts of Kazakhstan on support of Afghanistan. The international community highly appraises such position of our country regarding the Afghan problem and our assistance provided to this country in education, construction of social facilities and food security. The theme of Afghanistan has been in spotlight of Kazakhstan within its activity in OSCE Troika and oncoming OIC chairmanship.

Within this meeting, O. Bitimov met with Secretary General of the OIC E. Ihsanoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan R.Zalmai, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Peace of Afghanistan B. Rabbani, heads of delegations from Russia, the U.S.A., Pakistan, Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank.
