"Ratification of the international sea conventions allows protecting disadvantaged ecological areas of the Caspian Sea from disastrous consequences of oil spill and will promote improvement of the measures on their prevention and enhancement of international interaction in this sphere", a representative of the International Maritime Organization Patricia Charlebois said.
International legal base on struggle against pollution of sea environment includes an International ConventionRelating to Intervention on the High Seas in Cases of Oil Pollution Casualties, civic responsibility for damage as a result of oil spills and environmental pollution by bunker fuel and cooperation in fight with consequences of oil spill.
Development of cooperation of Kazakhstan with the international community in environmental protection in the Caspian region is important for Kazakhstan taking into consideration implementation of the state program on development of the Kazakhstan part of the Caspian Sea and prospects of further growth of oil production.

In the course of the event they will be familiarized with the current international conventions on countering environmental pollution not ratified by Kazakhstan and will conduct an analysis of the national ecological legislation and the plan on liquidation of oil spills and will focus on the prospects of Kazakhstan's accession to the international initiatives in this sphere.
