International scientific-practical conference to be opened in Ustkamenogorsk

USTKAMENOGORSK. January 20. KAZINFORM /Lyudmila Malko/ ?Geo-ecological problems of cross-border territories? three-day international scientific-practical conference has been opened today in the East Kazakhstan State University, Kazinform reports.

The geo-forum is dedicated to the memory of famous scientists-geographers of Siberia, Altai and Kazakhstan Valentina and Kseniya Popovas. Today the geo-ecological problem of cross-border territories is one of important problems of East Kazakhstan region and adjacent territories of neighboring countries. Information about current state and prediction of natural environment and resources changes are necessary for estimation of nature management system, development of strategy of sustainable development. In this regard the S.Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University together with Ustkamenogorsk office of the Kazakh Geographical Society initiated holding of the forum. Leading scientists of Kazakhstan and Russia will take part in the forum. Issues of geo-ecology and nature management, physical and economic geography, climatology and biogeography, agro-ecology, area study and tourism, medico-social problems, ecological education will be discussed at the forum. Exhibition of scientific works of the Popovas and personal collection of rocks of V.Popova was organized within the conference.
