International status and influence of SCO keep growing: Cheng Guoping

BEIJING. November 19. KAZINFORM /Ruslan Suelimenov/ "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) maintains good development trend in supporting regional security and stability, takes efficient measures on countering the negative impact of the world financial crisis and continues deepening business cooperation inside the Organization" Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping told a Kazinform correspondent in Beijing on Thursday, November 18.

According to the Chinese diplomat, complex and profound changes are taking place in the international and regional situation. In particular, the "three evil forces" - terrorism, extremism and separatism as well as illegal drug trafficking, transnational organized crime prose a serious threat for the region. The prospects of full recovery of the world economy remain uncertain.

"In this regard, the SCO member states admit that only united we are able to effectively protect interests of the Organization and its member states", Cheng Guoping noted.

Speaking of the ninth meeting of the SCO Heads of Government in Dushanbe, the Chinese diplomat emphasized that the main theme of the meeting would be issues of further cooperation promotion in the field of security provision, economic, humanitarian and other fields. Upon the meeting the SCO Heads of Government are expected to unveil a joint communiqué.

Representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce Sun Yongfu has said that the SCO regional economic cooperation is an important sphere for interaction.

"The economic cooperation between the SCO member states achieved good results this year. The investment levels increased, the business community of the Organization strengthened as well as contacts and cooperation in the financial sphere extended. This will allow to provide stable economic development of the region and contribute to global economic recovery", Sun Yongfu said.
