Investigation into Zhanaozen riots must be conducted openly and transparently - Nazarbayev
The President visited the facilities destroyed during the riots in Zhanaozen town, and met with residents and law enforcement officials.
Nazarbayev urged the governmental commissioned headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev within two weeks to identify all the reasons that caused the dissatisfaction among Ozenmunaygaz company's employees and Zhanaozen residents and make suggestions on how to eliminate them.
The President emphasized that each resident of Zhanaozen had an opportunity to find job at one of the enterprises launched under the State Program of Forced Industrial Innovative Development.
Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed the General Prosecutor's Office and Ministry of Internal Affairs to take all measures to investigate crimes during the riots. It is needed to intensify efforts to identify, search for the instigators and those responsible for the riots. In this case the investigation must be conducted openly and transparently, with the involvement of the public commission headed by Omirzak Ozganbayev, Chairman of the Veterans' Council of Mangystau region.
According to Nazarbayev, the vast majority of experts, including foreign ones, agree that it was a specially organized event, that the riots in Zhanaozen were "a planned action of a provocative nature, as evidenced by the successful organization and timing."
