Iran hopes to resolve uncoordinated issues on Caspian Sea's status: ambassador

BAKU.  December 10. KAZINFORM Almost 70 percent of the issues to determine the status of the Caspian Sea have been coordinated. Iran hopes that all sides will reach an agreement on the remaining items soon, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Muhammad Bagir Bahrami told media today.

The status of the sea is a legal issue between Caspian countries. It can be resolved. All Caspian countries are seriously working in this direction now," the ambassador said.

The littoral countries signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea in November 2003.

The agreement on the delimitation of the northern part of the Caspian Sea and the adjacent protocol were signed between Russia and Kazakhstan to execute sovereign rights for subsoil use in July 1998 and in May 2002 accordingly.  

The agreement on the delimitation of the Caspian Sea and the protocol were signed between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Nov. 29, 2001 and February 27, 2003.

The agreement on the junction point of the delimitation of adjacent sections of the Caspian Sea was signed between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia May 14, 2003,  Kazinform refers to Trend News.
