Iran's president calls for regional solidarity

TEHRAN. December 21. KAZINFORM Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for unity and solidarity of all regional nations, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Monday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

In a meeting with visiting Iraqi Kurdistan officials on Sunday, Ahmadinejad voiced Tehran's support for regional solidarity and said such a unity would benefit the entire region.

    A secure, integrated and lawful Iraq will be in the interest of both the Iraqi nation and the whole region, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic would remain beside the Iraqi people.

    Iran and Iraq have enjoyed close and friendly relationship since the former Baathi regime of Iraq was overthrown after the U.S. raid in 2003.

    On Friday, some Iraqi and Western media reported that Iranian forces had crossed into Iraq and seized the No. 4 oil well from the al-Fakkah oilfield in Iraq's Maysan province, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
