Iran starts official registration for presidential election

TEHRAN. May 5. KAZINFORM The official registration for Iran's upcoming presidential election in June started on early Tuesday morning, the official IRNA news agency reported, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"I am sure I will win 100 percent of votes," the first registered candidate Mohsen Hadi Najafbadi, who is 45 years old from the province of Sistan va Baluchestan, was quoted as saying. The internet (initial) registration has started since May 2. However, candidates should attend the Interior Ministry personally or through their legal representatives with necessary documents and papers. According to Iran's ISNA news agency, candidates can register their names between 8:00 am (0330 GMT) to 4:00 pm (1130 GMT) with the Interior Ministry until May 9. Iran's former Prime Minister Mir Hossein Mousavi, former Parliament Speaker Mehdi Karroubi and former Head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps Mohsen Rezai who have announced their plans to run for presidency are expected to officially register their names during this period. Iran's incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has not officially announced his candidacy, but he is also expected to register his name.
