Iraqi president travels to Germany for treatment: statement

"President Jalal Talabani left Thursday Baghdad's Madinat al- Tib (or Medical City) Hospital, heading to the Federal Republic of Germany under the supervision of a specialized medical team," his office said in a statement posted on the presidency website.
It said that Talabani's departure came after an improvement in his condition due to the efforts of Iraqi and foreign medical teams that resulted in providing appropriate conditions to transfer the president abroad for further treatment.
On Wednesday, a specialized German medial team arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday and carried out medical tests on Talabani which confirmed that his condition was stable and can travel outside Iraq.
The 79-year-old president went into a coma due to a stroke and was sent to hospital late Monday night. Medical experts from other countries began arriving since Tuesday morning to assess Talabani' s condition.
Talabani has various health problems and has undergone several medical procedures in recent years.
