Issues of saving the Aral Sea discussed in Almaty

The issues concerning Kazakhstan?s chairmanship in the Fund in 2009-2011 as well as the agenda of the oncoming Summit of the heads of the states-founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea were discussed. Besides, the participants considered the issues of joint use of water and energy resources of Central Asia. The Fund is an interstate organization established in 1993 in order to fund and credit joint regional environmental and research programs and projects aimed at saving the Aral Sea and improving the environmental situation in the areas affected by the disaster as well as solving regional socio-economic problems. The founders are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
