Japan donates 20.3 million tenge for social projects in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The Japanese Government has provided financial assistance in the amount of 20.3 million tenge ($110 thousand) to five social projects in Kazakhstan in the framework of "Grass roots" program under the Japanese official development assistance (ODA).

Grant contracts have been signed between the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Kamohara Masayoshi and representatives of relevant organizations at the ambassador's residence in Astana. Thus, cash grants have been awarded for the project on acquisition of medical equipment for Bokeyordinskiy central district hospital (West Kazakhstan region); construction of a hostel for women and children affected by domestic violence (Almaty region); replacement of windows in a secondary school № 29 (East Kazakhstan region); repair of the ventilation system for TB hospital in Ekibastuz (Pavlodar region); acquisition of medical equipment for the Kostanay regional center for the prevention and control of AIDS. "Grass roots" aid program started operating in Kazakhstan in 1997. It aims to support non-governmental organizations, bodies of local government, primary health care facilities and so on. Total the program provided financial support to 70 projects in Kazakhstan worth more than 927 million tenge (over $ 5 million). Ambassador expressed hope that the assistance of the Government of Japan will make a significant contribution to health and safety in Kazakhstan and will strengthen the friendly relations between the two nations.
