Japan highly appraises Kazakhstan's policy of nuclear disarmament - Ambassador Yuzo Harada
ASTANA. November 23. KAZINFORM Japan highly appraises the initiatives and policy of Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear disarmament. Ambassador of Japan Yuzo Harada said it on Tuesday at a briefing at the Kazakh Presidential residence Akorda.
"Nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation is one of the most important issues for us. Japan and Kazakhstan continue cooperation in this field", he said.
On August 29, 1991 President Nursultan Nazarbayev made a decision to shut down the Semipalatinsk test site. It is deeply symbolic that years later this very day, at the initiative of Kazakhstan, was declared by the UN as International Day of Action against nuclear tests.
Besides, the President of Kazakhstan repeatedly proposed antinuclear initiatives. Particularly, at the opening of the IX Eurasian Media Forum in Almaty Mr. Nazarbayev suggested all countries in the world concluding a treaty on comprehensive prohibition of nuclear weapons under the aegis of the United Nations.
