Japan's upper house adopts resolution on new sanction on Pyongyang
TOKYO. April 8. KAZINFORM Japan's House of Councilors adopted a resolution Wednesday condemning Pyongyang's rocket launch and urging the government to impose new sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The resolution, which passed during an upper house plenary session, said the launch "is an act which poses a threat to life and property" in Japan.
The adoption came after the House of Representatives endorsed a similar resolution during its plenary session a day earlier.
On Monday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura said the Cabinet will decide Friday on its basic guideline for new sanctions on DPRK after Pyongyang launched the rocket despite Japan's repeated warnings not to do so.
Japan is set to extend its economic sanctions on the DPRK for one year instead of six months after Pyongyang's rocket launch.
Under the sanctions, Japan placed a ban on port calls by DPRK- registered vessels and all imports of goods from the DPRK as well as the entry of all DPRK nationals into Japan, Kazinform cites Xinhua. Full version can be found at www.chinaview.cn
