Japanese companies invest above USD 7.8 bln in Kazakhstan's economy

Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov met with Ambassador of Japan to Kazakhstan Jun Yamada to debate trade and economic cooperation between the two nations, Kazinform News Agency cites the Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s press service.

The Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister noted the high potential of Kazakhstan to expand investment cooperation with Japan in spheres such as transportation and logistics, renewables, waste treatment, digitalization and infrastructure. He also confirmed the country’s readiness to support Japanese companies interested in the implementation of projects in Kazakhstan.

Astana and Tokyo established an active political dialogue, reached a high level of economic cooperation, and further strengthened cultural and humanitarian ties. For the past 18 years, Japan’s companies invested over 7.8 billion US dollars in Kazakhstan's economy and we see high potential for expanding cooperation in key economic sectors, Kuantyrov said.

In his turn, Jun Yamada said Kazakhstan is a strategic partner of Japan. He said Japan’s companies may help Kazakhstan to develop energy projects, transport potential, infrastructure, and in particular, digitalization of the logistics process. The ambassador stressed that direct air service to be launched in 2026 will help strengthen bilateral ties and expand opportunities for business and tourism.

In conclusion, the parties pledge to strengthen strategic partnerships to enhance economic cooperation.
