Japanese kimono masterpieces presented in Astana for the first time ever

Exhibition of the Japanese master Itchiku Kubota were opened in the capital through the offices of the city akim Imangali Tasmagambetov. Each kimono presented in the collection is a masterpiece. If unite them in a row, there will be a single picture, a special landscape.

Patokh Chodiev, patron:

This is unique art which is on the edge of different kinds of cultural work of the master Kubota. It’s embodiment of everything he created in his imagination and expressed it on cloth. It’s artistic work, painting, and at the same time it’s represented in a form of weaved fabric with a special colour”.

Imangali Tasmagambetov, Astana city akim:

We’re sure that the exhibition contributes to the noble mission of cultural rapprochement of nations of the world announced by UNESCO and United Nations”.

Itchiku Kubota is worthily considered as a great master of painting and textile of 20 century. Each kimono, which is 2.5 metres of hand painting and stitches, is a true masterpiece, and it took almost a year to create it. In total there are 104 showpieces in the collection. And only 42 of them are presented in Astana.

Japanese art comes to us in this form to Astana, and in Kazakhstan for the first time ever. It’s a unique master, unique technique, truly amazing painting. And I like it very one thing peculiar to Japan - harmonious combination of traditional and innovative”.

Every citizen of Astana can see the unique collection. The exhibition is opened from 6 to 19 of September.
