Japanese leader urges country to unite

"We will rebuild Japan from scratch," Kan said. "We must all share this resolve."

A massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake and powerful tsunami hit northeastern Japan on March 11. The official death toll has reached 6,405 and 10,259 are registered as missing.
