Japan's Kyodo News Agency quoted government officials as saying Obama's presidential inauguration ceremony, set for January 21st, would complicate Abe's US trip.

Aiming at enhancing Japan-US relations, the visit was planned during telephone talks between the two leaders. Since winning in last month's elections, Abe has repeated that the Japan-US partnership remained the core of Japan's foreign policies.

Japan's vice Foreign Minister Chikao Kawai will visit the United States Monday to hold talks with his US counterpart, to reschedule Abe's trip.
