Jordan interested in purchasing Kazakhstan grain - Ambassador Slaiman Arabiat

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Today Kazakhstan and Jordan have close friendship and partnership. And, of course, diplomats from both countries are interested in deepening cooperation in all directions. This is evidenced by the fact that one of the streets in the city of Amman was named after our President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On Monday one of the main streets in Astana was named after His Majesty the late King Hussein, in commemoration of his contributions at the Arab and international levels and in recognition of his efforts to develop relations between Jordan and Kazakhstan, this has been told by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Kazakhstan Slaiman Arabiat. - Can you briefly describe the dynamics of economic and political ties between the two countries? - Jordan and Kazakhstan are developing collaboration in all socio-economic areas. Kazakhstan and Jordan have signed 22 agreements in various fields; we are cooperating in economic, tourist, cultural spheres, as well as in health care. - Are you satisfied with the level of trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and Jordan? - Today, economic relations are developing under the agreed treaties. Unfortunately, there is a problem. Kazakhstan does not have direct access to a sea, which is why there are problems with the delivery of goods. This factor directly affects the level of trade between the two countries. For example, we are interested in the purchase of high-quality Kazakhstani grain. We need about 700 thousand tons of grain a year. But delivery of Kazakh grain to Jordan is very expensive. In the future, after the construction of new railway lines, we will be able to actively buy Kazakhstani grain. - What can you say about cultural and humanitarian partnership between our states? - This direction contributes to the establishment of friendly relations between our peoples. Three years ago, one of the streets of the Jordanian capital of Amman was named after Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev. In response, it was decided to name a street in Astana after His Majesty the late King Hussein. We regard this gesture as a sign of respect and honor from the Kazakh side to our state. - We know that in the near future the Pope is expected to visit Jordan. Would you tell us about that? - Jordan pays great attention to the issue of inter-religious accord. In particular, the Pope is expected to visit Jordan May 24. It cannot but mention that each newly elected head of the Vatican visits our country because we have a lot of places of Christian pilgrimage. In this regard, Jordan allocated an area for the construction of "Russian House", financed by the Russian side. According to statistics, Jordan is visited by about 80,000 tourists from Russia. We regard the Pope's visit as respect for our country and the policies pursued by our government. Jordan is one of the states adhering to a policy of peace in the Middle East region. - What is, in your opinion, the role of Kazakhstan in Central Asia? - Kazakhstan is certainly a leader in the region and it manifests itself in a positive way. This is due to the policy pursued by the official Astana. Kazakhstan intends to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period from 2017 to 2018. Thus, Kazakhstan will contribute to the strengthening of security of the Central Asian region. I think Kazakhstan will be supported by all states. - Will Jordan participate in the international exhibition "Expo-2017"? - Yes, of course! Despite the fact that there were many countries willing to host this international exhibition, Kazakhstan won that honorable right. I think Jordan will actively participate in all the activities of the international exhibition.
