Jordan paid tribute to nuclear tests' victims

ASTANA. August 3. KAZINFORM The Kazakh Embassy in Jordan held a "round table" on occasion of the International Day against nuclear tests and the Constitution Day of Kazakhstan.

According to the press service of the Kazakh Embassy, representatives of authoritative non-governmental organizations and the leading mass media of Jordan, including Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament and the Kazakh-Jordanian Friendship Union, Petra, Nebras News Agencies, Jordan Times, Ad-Dustour and Al-Rai Newspapers took part in the event.

The "round table" started with a moment of silence at 11:05 am local time in honor of the victims of nuclear testing worldwide. At this moment, the clock formed a Latin letter V, which symbolizes the victory (from the Latin word «Victory» ).

The participants, recognizing the unprecedented contribution of Kazakhstan to the process of nuclear disarmament and the reduction of the nuclear threat, expressed the hope that future generations will remember the victims who have suffered the Kazakh people from this comprehensive threat and put in the way of an example of Kazakhstan and its President for a nuclear-free world. It was noted that Kazakhstan as the as a nation, voluntarily chose the path of nuclear disarmament, has a special moral right to a major role in addressing this urgent problem.

Voluntary renunciation of the world's fourth largest nuclear arsenal and the act of complete, unconditional ban on the testing and, therefore, the improvement of weapons, "Doomsday" by closing the Semipalatinsk test site became a symbol of the desire of all nations to a world free of nuclear weapons and the beginning of a new era in global disarmament.

The famous Jordanian journalist noted high level of bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Kazakhstan in the global nuclear disarmament.

Jordan Times journalist highlighted the relevance of the ATOM project. In her view, such initiatives contribute significantly to the process of global disarmament. She called on all people of good will in the world to support the project and make ATOM build a world without nuclear weapons of our most important goal.

It is necessary to note that the Government of the Kingdom has expressed strong support for a minute of silence. Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jordan sent a formal note to the Embassy of Kazakhstan to support this initiative. Moreover, this information was sent to all government departments Kingdom.
