Judge sentenced to 5 years for bribery, Karaganda region

KARGANDA. July 26. KAZINFORM - Daniar Nygmetzhanov, a judge of the October district in Karaganda city, has been sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment in a penal colony with confiscation of property for a bribe amounting to KZT 100 thousand (tenge), Kazinform's correspondent reports from the courtroom.

"Nygmetzhanov was found guilty of an offense under article 311 part 1 of the Criminal Code (bribery) of Kazakhstan, was sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment and disqualification to hold a public position for a period of 5 years", voiced the verdict Dulat Dautov, Chairman of Abay district court.

As noted in the verdict, the crime is classified as serious and undermines public confidence in justice and the institution of state power in general.

Olga Kleiman, a lawyer, was returned guilty of mediation in bribery (Article 313 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan). "According to this article, she was sentenced to pay the state a fine of KZT 1 million 731 thousand (tenge)", said Dulat Dautov.

NOTE: D. Nygmetzhanov, a judge of the October district in Karaganda city, was arrested on August 8, 2012 red-handed taking a bribe in the amount of KZT100 thousand via O. Kleiman, the lawyer. According to investigators, the judge demanded money for positive decision on apartment dispute in favor of a plaintiff.

During the investigation and trial the accused were under recognizance not to leave.
