K.Tokayev showed himself as staunch supporter of multilateral diplomacy - OSCE PA Sec Gen

ASTANA. March 17. KAZINFORM Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kassym-Jomart Tokayev from Kazakhstan has been appointed Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, becoming the first representative of Asia on this post.

"Mr. Tokayev made valuable contribution to the activity of the Parliamentary Assembly and represented interests of his country and region in the OSCE," Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Petros Efthimiou said. He praised K.Tokayev's generous contribution to the multilateral dialog, and he is confident that newly-appointed Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva will continue work on maintenance of peace and stability.

As the OSCE PA's press release reads, Mr. Tokayev will be a Personal Representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon under the Conference on Disarmament.

"As the head of the Kazakh delegation in the OSCE PA K.Tokayev showed himself as a staunch supporter of multilateral diplomacy. We hope for continuation of joint work with him and deepening cooperation with the UN on our common agenda," OSCE PA Secretary General Spencer Oliver announced.
