Kazakh Ambassador to Canada and concurrently to Jamaica visited Kingston

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Last week, in Kingston, Jamaica, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Canada Konstantin Zhigalov delivered Credentials to Governor General Patrick Allen. The credentials accredited the Ambassador as the first Kazakhstan Ambassador to Jamaica (with residence in Canada) since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the talks with Governor General Allen, Ambassador Zhigalov highlighted that in accordance with the newly adopted Foreign Policy Concept of Kazakhstan for 2014-2020 our country is committed to strengthening relations with the Caribbean, where Jamaica plays an important role. The Governor General confirmed the importance of multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan. At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Senator Arnold Nicholson, the sides discussed bilateral cooperation and international issues, including mutual support within the framework of the United Nations. During the meeting, Jamaica's Minister of Tourism Wykeham McNeill highlighted the increased number of Kazakhstan tourists visiting Jamaica last year and expressed interest in further growth. It was noted that opening of regular flights from Moscow to Jamaica by Transaero company, which has been working in Kazakhstan for a long time, will create new opportunities for ensuring convenient routes from Kazakhstan to Jamaica. The parties agreed that facilitation of visa regime and signing of a bilateral agreement between Kazakhstan and Jamaica on cooperation in tourism can significantly help expanding cooperation in this field, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service said. During the talks with Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Anthony Hylton, the sides discussed prospects of developing trade and investment partnership. Minister Hylton extended invitation for Kazakhstan companies to participate in development of a new international logistics hub in Jamaica, which will contribute to consolidation and strengthening of international trade and transport of goods. Bauxite and aluminum industry was also noted as one of the potential areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, considering both countries play an important role in the world market in this field. In general, the visit indicated availability of good opportunities for the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Jamaica.
