Kazakh Ambassador to Thailand met with UN Deputy Secretary-General - Executive Secretary, (ESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar

ASTANA. KAZINFORM On February 17 in Bangkok, in the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Head quarter Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand - Permanent representative in ESCAP Marat Esenbayev met with UN Deputy Secretary-General - ESCAP Executive Secretary Shamshad Akhtar.

During the meeting, the sides noted high dynamics of development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and ESCAP within The United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), Green Bridge Partnership program, as well as in the area of transport, trade, effective management of water resources, energy, disaster risks and sustainable development, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service said. Shamshad Akhtar underscored importance of Kazakhstan's development strategy to 2050, a leading role of our country in the regional process of transfer to green economy. This entirely answers the UN Post-2015 Development agenda. Events held in Kazakhstan such as the 63rd Session of ESCAP organized in Almaty in 2007, the 6th Conference on Environment held in Astana in 2010, as well as the projected international exhibition EXPO-2017 evidence Kazakhstan commitment to the UN Development agenda. ESCAP lays special importance to cooperation with Kazakhstan on sub-regional level and is ready to provide counseling support for enlargement of The ESCAP Sub-regional Office for North and Central Asia (SONCA) in Almaty. ESCAP is interested in active participation of Kazakhstan's financial experts in activities of the Inter-governmental Committee on sustainable financial strategy under aegis of the UN, created for facilitation of providing resources and their effective utilization in order to reach sustainable development according to the final document of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) "Future we want". Shamshad Akhtar plans to visit the Republic of Kazakhstan in May in order to discuss these issues.
