Kazakh boxer given gold after controversy at ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai
Following a controversial incident in the final bout against Khavasbek Assadullayev, Kazakh boxer Ablaikhan Zhussupov has been declared the winner of the ASBC Asian Elite Men Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from Sports.kz.
Ablaikhan Zhussupov, who had returned to the national team from professional boxing, faced Asadullayev in the men’s 71 kg gold medal fight of the Asian Championships in Thailand. Initially, the judges ruled out their split decision not in Zhussupov’s favor. However, the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation subsequently filed an appeal, citing an incident in which Khavasbek Assadullayev bit Zhussupov in the shoulder leaving teeth marks.
As a result, the IBA and ASBC reviewed the fight and gave the victory to the Kazakh athlete, while Assadullayev was suspended from the competition.
It was earlier reported that Kazakhstan had earned 20 medals at the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships 2024.
