Kazakh capital observes 16% increase in suicidal attempts
In nine months of this year, a total of 83 attempts of suicides were registered among underage, up 16% compared with 2022, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
81.3% of those attempting suicides were girls, according to the monitoring of suicidal attempts among underage in Astana.
8 of the 83 attempts ended up with lethal results, including the deaths of three teens aged 15-17. The same age category leads in the number of suicides in the nine-month period – 52 or 69.4% of the total attempts.
58.7% of the suicidal attempts were recorded among children of school age, 40% among university and college students, and 0.3% among random groups.
Medication overdose was the most common method in suicide attempts, accounting for 48 attempts or 57.8% of the total suicidal attempts in the Kazakh capital in nine months. It was followed by suicidal attempts by self-inflicted stabbing – 15 attempts or 18.1%, falling from height – 13 attempts or 15.7%, and self-hanging – three attempts or 3.6%.
