Kazakh delegation took part in UN World Durban Review Conference

ASTANA. April 27. KAZINFORM The UN World Durban Review Conference was held on April 20-24 in Geneva. Kazakh delegation headed by Vice Minister of Culture and Information Baglan Mailybayev took part in the conference, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

B.Mailybayev in his speech emphasized the topical aspects of the state policy of international and interconfessional accord, important foreign initiatives of Kazakhstan. B.Mailybayev held a range of bilateral meetings within the conference. At the meeting with UN Special Reporter on ethnic groups? rights Gay J. McDougall he informed the interlocutor on main directions of the Kazakh policy in the sphere of international and interconfessional accord. UN Deputy Secretary General Sergey Ordzhonikidze complimented the important geopolitical and economic role of Kazakhstan in the Central Asian region and international importance of Kazakhstan?s OSCE chairmanship in 2010, calling it the biggest achievement of the Kazakh diplomacy. S.Ordzhonikidze noted that UN Secretary General Pan Gi Moon appreciates the initiative of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on holding the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in the capital city of Kazakhstan, promoting the civilization dialogue. The UN Deputy Secretary General complimented the role of Kazakhstan in the issue of the global nuclear disarmament. Kazakhstan continues to contribute to the non-proliferation activity. The issues of state policy in the field of human rights protection and main directions of the Kazakh policy of international and interconfessional accord were discussed at the meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay. N.Pillay was interested in the Kazakh experience in the field of international and interconfessional accord, activity of the People?s Assembly of Kazakhstan, participation of the reps of the Assembly in the work of the Parliament of the country.
