Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister participated in UN Conference on Afghanistan
ASTANA. April 1. KAZINFORM The UN International Conference on Afghanistan "A Comprehensive Strategy in a Regional Context ? was held Tuesday in The Hague. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, heads of foreign ministries of the SCO member states, the European Council and the USA, reps of the NATO and the European Commission took part in the forum. The Kazakh delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh MFA.
The main topic of the forum was the necessity of consolidation of efforts of the international community aimed at combating threats of the international terrorism and drug trafficking destabilizing the situation in Afghanistan and around it. In this regard the importance of stability on the borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan was stressed.
Preparation for the Afghanistan President?s elections on August 20, 2009, development of state management institutes, further formation of the national police and army and economic restoration of the country are the main tasks for Afghanistan.
The head of the Kazakh delegation informed the participants of permanent and non-repayable aid that our country renders as part of the plan on economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan. He paid special attention to the necessity of involving the SCO and CSTO in the formation of belts of anti-terrorist, anti-drug and financial security in the region.
Upon the results of the forum the Statement of the Chairman of the Hague Conference on Afghanistan, devoted to the consideration of the impact of the situation in Afghanistan on the region, joint efforts on combating terrorism, illegal drug trafficking and organized crime, constituting a threat to the region and the world community was adopted.
